A Special Post for Aunt Suzie

A special dedication to Finn's Aunt Suzie who doesn't like verb vegetables.
Introducing Finn's new favorite food, squash.

I have to leave the squash in it's container with the lid on when it's getting close to dinner time. If he smells it while he's still drinking his bottle (bottle first, then food) he'll quit with the bottle and fills up on all squash instead. It's definitely the favorite. He's been on 'solids' for about a week and a half now (really early b/c of his size, dr's orders) and after a week of rice cereal we experimented with mashed banana, mixed veg, and the squash (which also has sweet potato and quinoa in it). The squash is by far and away the most popular.

Scrummer

We still can't escape the rugby comments here so we got him the shirt go with them (we don't mind the comments). A truly lovely retired delivery ward nurse stopped me in front of Marks & Spencer on Friday and chatted for a good ten minutes about my beautiful baby (yes, I get to brag a little since he's otherwise so much work). He was in a rare semi-doze state looking quite peaceful. She, like most, quizzed me on his birth weight (8lb 12oz at 38 weeks) and his age now (3 mos/14 weeks) and then the (friendly and happy) disbelief set in. As she left us she said, "Well he'll be a scrummer for sure!"
So we left the lovely nurse and went on our shopping trip. Where Finn came out of his drowsy state and howled through the entire M&S shop, where I made the choice to pull him out of his car seat, abandon the shopping basket, and put the groceries for our anniversary dinner in the car seat as I lugged him around the shop in my arms. Twice very kind M&S employees offered us a cart with a baby seat but that would have just increased screaming baby volume so we politely declined. Go M&S and we thank all the nice shoppers who didn't give us nasty looks.
Seriously, Travis and I may need to learn a little more about rugby if we're going to keep getting all these comments so we can discuss things a little more intelligently than just nodding and saying 'uh huh!'

Trippy Baby and REI Dividend

In the quest to find ways to soothe Finn we listen to a lot of music. Our tunes here play through the computer via iTunes. iTunes has this thing called the Visualizer. It gets seriously trippy. But, Finn loves to watch it. It moves along with the music, changing colors and patterns with the beat. Sometimes it's a bit overwhelming for me, but he just eats it up. I hope I'm not rotting his brain, I'll apologize to him now in case I am. Here are some screen shots in case you don't have iTunes at home so you can see what all the fuss is about...

And what did YOU spend YOUR REI dividend on this year?

Not much sun here but we're practicing for Colorado. Joking aside, sunglasses for babies and kids are a good idea. UV can damage to your eyes that can eventually cause macular degeneration (blindness) or cataracts. Protecting children's eyes is especially important. Places like Colorado where we get high exposure to UV we want to be especially careful with Finn's little eyes! This has affected our family so we're extra aware. PS Finn wears his sunglasses like a champ :)
